Are Good People Already Made? - 2 months ago

There are no good or bad people. A child knows their left from a tender age, even babies know the difference between good and bad. But is anyone born good or bad? I have heard people being called good and wondered if one can be born good or bad. I have wondered if I am a good person or a bad person; I mean, I try to do good, but sometimes I do bad things, and the thoughts of good and bad exist in my mind.

In psychology class, we were taught the theories of moral development, and one of them was the biological theory of moral development that propounded that morality is predisposed from our genetics, so one can be born with good and bad qualities genetically, and somehow I agree with that. The theory of Sigmund Freud propounded the psyche (superego, ego, and the id) Freud's theory of moral development examines the role of the ego as a mediator between the id and the superego. The id is the selfish drive, while the superego is the altruistic drive. The ego is the median between the two, balancing the crises that occur. Among these, there are many other theories.

But while all these theories have a good explanatory point, every human is born with a sense of what good is and what bad is. One may be born with an inherent character trait genetically, and in many instances, children are referred to as their parents when they start to unfold similar qualities as their parents. But at the end of that class, when talking it through with some of my friends, I realized that being good or bad is more than a biological predisposition.

If you ask me, it is a person's decision, one has to make the choice to always choose good over evil or evil over good. Life is certainly a warfare, that is why the Bible even asked us to overcome evil with good. So, at the end of the day, people called good or bad are people who choose which among the two. It's always hard to choose good, but don't forget the only divine that is ready to help in such trying times - “God” through Jesus Christ.
