The Body Speaks What The Mouth Suppresses - 3 days ago

Your body has a language.

The question is...

Are you listening?

Most of us pay attention to our bodies only when something starts hurting.

A headache.

A racing heart.

Tight shoulders.

Constant fatigue.

Difficulty sleeping.

An upset stomach.

Burnout that seems to appear out of nowhere.

We call them physical problems.

Sometimes they are.

But sometimes...

your body is carrying emotions your mouth never gave permission to speak.

Think about the last time someone asked,

"How are you?"

How many times did you answer,

"I'm fine,"

when you were anything but fine?

That's where emotional suppression begins.

We become experts at functioning while falling apart.

We smile through heartbreak.

We keep working through burnout.

We comfort everyone else while quietly neglecting ourselves.

Eventually, our emotions begin looking for another way out.

And often...

they choose the body.

Stress is one of the clearest examples.

When your mind constantly believes you're under threat—whether it's financial pressure, family conflict, workplace stress, or emotional pain—your body remains on high alert.

Your muscles tighten.

Your breathing becomes shallow.

Your heart works harder.

Stress hormones stay elevated.

This isn't because your body is failing you.

It's because it's trying to protect you.

Anxiety can also become physical.

Some people feel it in their chest.

Others in their stomach.

Some experience dizziness.

Others develop headaches that seem to come without warning.

Burnout is another message many people ignore.

Burnout isn't simply being busy.

It's what happens when you've spent so long giving without replenishing yourself that your entire system begins waving a white flag.

You lose motivation.

Small tasks feel overwhelming.

You feel emotionally detached from work, relationships, and even yourself.

Your body is saying,

"I can't keep carrying this alone."

Now, this doesn't mean every physical symptom is caused by emotions. Medical conditions are real, and persistent symptoms should always be assessed by a healthcare professional.

But it's also worth asking a different question alongside medical care:

"What have I been carrying emotionally that my body has been trying to tell me?"

Have you been swallowing anger?

Ignoring grief?

Living with constant fear?

Pretending you're okay because everyone depends on you?

Healing asks us to care for both the body and the heart.

Rest.

Movement.

Good nutrition.

Prayer.

Counselling.

Journaling.

Healthy relationships.

Boundaries.

These aren't luxuries.

They are ways of telling your body,

"I hear you now."

Because your body has never been working against you.

It has been speaking for you.

The hope is that one day, your heart won't have to hide behind headaches, exhaustion, or burnout to be heard.

You'll give your emotions a voice before your body has to shout.
