Nigeria's Classrooms Go Digital: UBEC Smart Boards Transform Lagos Public Schools (2025) - 2 months ago

With support from the Federal Government, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) announced it's project of giving out 800 smart board to various basic public schools.

The beginning of this project was demonstrated on the 10th of October, during a public event at Queen's College in Lagos. Ministers and educators were present at this occasion to witness what they claim to be the start of an educational revolution.

UBEC's Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, demonstrated the boards' functionalities, turning static lessons into interactive classes. Some boxes of devices were handed over to Lagos SUBEB officials along with promises of equity for under resourced schools.

In a nation where millions still learn under trees or sometimes leaking roofs, these smart boards, which are part of the broader EKOEXCEL initiative, bridge the gap between privilege and potential.

Many on X and other social media platforms feel that this initiative is not feasible, cannot be completed and will not be maintained. What is your own opinion?
