I know this sounds absurd but hear me out.

The price of fuel per liter in Nigeria has risen and everyone is talking about it. But the growing anime fan base is also a force to reckon with.

As I’m sure most of you know, anime are Japanese animations and they are rapidly growing in popularity google says 5 out of 10 do watch anime regularly. As an anime fan myself I never thought much about it until someone said to me “I heard watching anime increase IQ” I was like ha! For real?

So let’s talk about it. Many argue that anime are cartoons and meant for children. This is a very sensitive argument so please don’t start it in public places because they are indeed distinct. While anime and cartoons are both forms of animations, with anime having a Japanese origin and cartoon more western. However, the storyline and graphics are the most distinguishing factors. Cartoons which are primarily meant for children, use simple language and teach obvious morals, but anime has various genres I would definitely not recommend your children watching. So let’s agree they are not cartoons, okay

Enough background, let’s get to the topic at hand. Does watching anime actually make one smarter? Hmm let’s see. Let’s first talk about  how an individual’s IQ can rise. According to my good friend google, while we are born with a certain amount of IQ, it isn’t fixed in place but can rise through factors like environment, education and lifestyle. So I found something under how your IQ can drastically increase when it comes to education and that’s in the aspect of learning a foreign language. Remember I told you anime is Japanese? Walk with me. So here was what I asked “what is the greatest motivation for learning a new language” and the answer was “the desire to speak with people in their own language and understand their culture” boom! If you don’t catch my drift then you should probably start reading from the top. Anime showcases culture and is a form of communication. So the desire to understand anime, leads to the desire to learn Japanese, which challenges your brain to work harder hence increasing your IQ.

That’s not all so stay with me. There is also the cognitive training aspect. Remember I told you anime plot is too complicated for children? If you don’t remember you should probably watch more anime(I’m kidding)I also mentioned that anime has versions genre like sport, romance, musics, slice of life, and mystery. Let’s dwell on mystery. I’m sure you’ve watched a mystery movie before so I don’t need to tell you how it makes your brain work. All mystery movies make your brain go vroom! Vroom! But we are dwelling on anime here. Those of you that have seen death note or monster know what I’m talking about. This has the same effect as puzzles when it comes to boosting fluid intelligence.

I can go on and on but I won’t because I’m sure you are convinced. While there are movies that increase your IQ as well, I’m being partial towards anime because that’s what the title of this is about. You might want to go ahead and watch some anime right not to see if you can boost your IQ but I beg you to calm down. While there are brain rot books and movies, there are also brain rot animes so choose carefully(no, I won’t recommend)

What was the point of this? Well, just to show you it wasn’t absurd after all . Anime isn’t the only thing that increases your IQ but it can be one of them period. See you next time with another absurd topic.
