Beyoncé Threatens Cease-and-Desist Over Trump Campaign's Use Of 'Freedom'! - 3wks ago

The song choice got a lot of attention online because Kamala Harris has used it at various campaign events. Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Donald Trump, posted a video on his X account showing the former president walking off a plane on August 20th to Beyoncé's "Freedom" from the Lemonade album. Beyoncé, who is 42 years old, has not made any statements regarding the video. However, Rolling Stone mentioned on August 21st that the Trump campaign did not have permission to use the song, and Beyoncé has reportedly threatened to issue a cease-and-desist order to the Republican presidential nominee's team. The Harris campaign also recently featured the track in a new ad revealed on August 19th during the first day of the Democratic National Convention.

Even though Beyoncé didn't officially endorse Harris, she's been supporting the Democratic party for years. Back in 2013, she sang at Barack Obama's inauguration, and in 2020, she used social media to back Joe Biden. On the flip side, Harris got a big endorsement from Beyoncé's mom, Tina Knowles. The fashion guru, aged 70, shared a snap with Harris on Instagram in late July, praising her as a leader. Tina Knowles lauded Biden for his service and leadership, throwing her support behind Harris for President in 2024. It's clear that the support for Harris is coming from all corners, even from within the music and fashion industry!

Céline Dion wasn't happy with Trump's campaign using her song "My Heart Will Go On" at a rally. Her team and Sony Music Canada stepped in, saying she doesn't endorse it. The statement stressed Céline disapproves of her song at political events, given its Titanic connection. It seems like even big stars are keeping a close eye on how their music is being used in campaigns!
