The proverb "the patient dog eats the fattest bone" implies that the most fortunate people are those who can wait patiently. Although this notion promotes patience, it isn't usually supported by facts. In actuality, one may lose out on opportunities if they wait too long.

 In the competitive employment market, for example, people who move fast and take advantage of chances tend to do better than those who wait. Furthermore, things happen unexpectedly in life, thus the "fattest bone" might not always be available. Occasionally, the opportunity may already be snatched by someone else before the ‘patient dog’ gets to it. 

This proverb may also downplay the significance of being proactive and showing initiative. It frequently takes a combination of action and patience to succeed. While patience is a virtue, relying solely on it without recognizing when to act can lead to missed chances. Thus, the idea that patience alone guarantees the best rewards is not always accurate.
