I couldn’t lie to myself at that moment, I knew there was no point. My hands grew weak; so did my knees as I watched them. I was disappointed… Maybe that’s an understatement because it hurt me a lot, for no reason. Yet, I watched them till they disappeared into the field. 

I clenched my fists and hit the wall with it twice, before my phone vibrated, signifying that I had a new message. I took a peep, it was from Angelina. I sucked in air through my teeth quickly and released it slowly, before reading the text.

“I am ready, don’t keep me waiting.” The text read. 

I took a few deep breaths before walking out of the mansion. Everything in me wanted to text Summer to inform her about my new schedule and insist she come with me… but I decided against it. I didn’t know what I was feeling but I knew it was not right and would not be fair. It would not be fair to neither Angelina who would want to just spend time with me alone, nor Summer who would want to spend time with Barth.

“What if Margaret sees them together and causes a scene again?” my mind asked me as I drove to pick Angelina at her house.

“Barth had promised to stand up for me and not allow his mother to bully me in any way ever again.” I reminded myself of her answer when I asked her the same question the day she came to inform me about her decision to go out with Barth.
