The hostel corridor was unusually quiet that afternoon. The sound of distant laughter echoed faintly
from another wing, but here, everything felt calm. A student walked slowly toward her room, her arms
filled with books, her mind already drifting to the assignments waiting on her desk.
She moved confidently, her footsteps steady against the tiled floor. Just a few steps ahead, however, a
small puddle of water lay unnoticed, reflecting the ceiling light like a harmless patch of shine.
Without realizing the danger, she stepped forward.
In a split second, her foot slipped.
Time seemed to slow down. Her books tilted, her body swayed, and shock flashed across her face. The
fall felt inevitable. But instinct took over. She flailed slightly and reached out her hand gripping the wall
just in time.
Her heart pounded.
For a brief moment, she stood frozen, trying to process what had almost happened. Then she steadied
herself, breathing deeply as relief washed over her. She looked down at the water and understood how
close she had come to a painful accident.
Instead of ignoring it and walking away, she made a decision.
A few minutes later, she returned with a mop and a bucket. Carefully and thoroughly, she cleaned the
puddle. When she finished, she placed a handwritten “Wet Floor” note on the wall nearby and smiled
confidently.
