Insecurity: Save Nigeria From Bloodshed – CAN, Sultan Urge FG - 4 months ago

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Sultan Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar, President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), expressed serious concern about the worsening insecurity in Nigeria. The council, a united front of Christian and Islamic leaders, condemned the surge in violent incidents, including the recent killing of 13 farmers in Niger State, the abduction of 150 people in Sokoto State, and the murder of a local leader in the same region.

In a statement signed by NIREC’s Executive Secretary, Fr. Prof. Cornelius Omonokhua, the leaders urged the Nigerian government and security agencies to intensify their efforts to eliminate these threats. They stressed the need for a more robust and coordinated approach to ensure that citizens can go about their daily lives without fear. The council also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the safe return of those still held captive.

NIREC emphasized that ensuring security is a shared responsibility, calling on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. The religious leaders highlighted the urgency of addressing the escalating violence, warning that if left unchecked, it could further destabilize the nation and endanger the safety of its citizens. The council’s leaders urged a unified response, stressing the importance of cooperation among the government, security agencies, religious groups, and the public to restore peace and security across Nigeria.
