Religious Leaders Clash Over Allegations Of Genocide: MURIC Challenges COCIN's Dachomo - 2 months ago

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has stepped into the spotlight, taking a bold stance against Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN). In a provocative statement, they are calling on Dachomo to hold off on his political aspirations until 2027 if he seeks the Vice Presidency of Nigeria.

This dramatic confrontation stems from Dachomo's recent appearance on Channels TV, where he reignited his inflammatory claim of a "Christian Genocide" occurring in Nigeria. He vehemently argued that the current Muslim leadership, embodied by both the president and vice president, represents a systemic persecution of Christians. Dachomo insists that the only solution is for Vice President Kashim Shettima to resign for a Christian successor.

“With both the president and vice president being Muslim, is that not a complete genocide against Christians in politics? Shettima must go, and I firmly stand by this!” Dachomo declared passionately during the broadcast.

MURIC did not hold back in their response, labeling Dachomo's comments as nothing more than "hyperbolic articulation." They dismissed his assertions as not only emotional but also devoid of any factual basis, branding them as "articulated religiosity cum religious masturbation." Their statement accused Dachomo of a grave misunderstanding of Nigeria's democratic process, which has undergone rigorous development through hard-fought elections.

The organization stressed that Dachomo’s demand for Shettima's ousting undermines the integrity of the electoral process, which they claim was conducted fairly and legitimately. “If Dachomo desires to be the Vice President, he must adhere to the established democratic process and wait until 2027,” the statement asserted.

In a sharp critique, MURIC even questioned Dachomo’s mental state, suggesting that he has become paranoid about the Muslim-Muslim ticket, envisioning threats in every corner of his life. “Has our reverend gone paranoid? He sees the Muslim-Muslim ticket everywhere, from his mansion to his wardrobe and even on TV,along with this so-called Christian genocide,” they remarked. This comment hints at a broader narrative that suggests certain religious factions resort to sensationalism when they feel endangered.

MURIC also invoked a past incident in Jos where protestors attempted to disrupt military efforts in the search for the missing Major-General Mohammed Idris Alkali, underscoring their belief that Dachomo’s claims are part of a larger scheme of deception. “We see a sea of con artists in this current mass hysteria,” they stated, drawing connections between Dachomo’s rhetoric and a perceived ongoing manipulation of public sentiment.

Additionally, the organization pointed out what they perceive as an entitlement mentality among some religious groups, who erroneously believe they are owed political power. “That’s why Dachomo and his supporters think they can usurp a mandate from a Muslim majority, albeit a silent and subdued one, under the guise of a fabricated allegation of Christian genocide,” they asserted.

MURIC concluded their fiery statement by recognizing the voices of numerous Christians who have opposed the narrative of genocide, highlighting the necessity for unity among all Nigerians to address violence and insecurity. They also admonished Dachomo for his confrontational approach during his interview, reminding him that religious leaders should embody role models for their communities. “Unless he is intentionally inciting Nigerian Christians, Dachomo needs to tone it down,” they urged.
