Welcome to Day 1 of "The Common Thread." Our campaign is simple: we believe that even though we have different religions, we are all part of one human family. The thread that connects us is love, kindness, and respect.
Over the next seven days, we will share simple actions you can take to make your community a more tolerant and peaceful place.
We are kicking things off with the easiest action possible: A smile.
Today, we are challenging every student and community member to look past religious attire or symbols. Look at the person, not the differences. When you see someone who you believe has a different faith than you—maybe they are wearing a different symbol, head covering, or are just a neighbor you haven’t spoken to—just smile and greet them.
A simple "Hello," "Good morning," or "How are you?" can break down invisible walls faster than any academic debate. When you greet someone with respect, you are making a simple promise: "I see you, I respect you, and we are together.”
