Neglected Child - 1 month ago

Lila lived in a house full of people but empty of warmth. Her parents provided food, clothes, and shelter, but affection and attention were strangers there. Questions went unanswered. Achievements went unnoticed. Tears were met with silence.

At school, Lila learned to hide her pain behind a practiced smile. Teachers saw her as polite and obedient, classmates admired her quiet resilience but no one knew the storm inside her. She longed for a simple “I’m proud of you” or “I love you,” words that felt impossible to find at home.

Her younger brother, Jonah, copied her. He stopped asking for help with homework, stopped talking about his day, stopped seeking hugs. Silence became their shared language, each word unspoken carving deeper lines of loneliness.

One winter evening, after another ignored attempt to connect, Lila ran to the attic, clutching a journal. She began writing letters to her parents, pouring out the feelings she couldn’t voice aloud. She wrote about her dreams, her fears, the aching void left by their absence. Each word was a small rebellion, a way to remind herself that her heart mattered.

Years later, Lila’s journal became a lifeline. She discovered art and writing, places where she could express the love and validation she never received. She learned that while her parents could not give her what she needed, she could give it to herself. Emotional neglect left scars, yes but it did not take away her strength, her voice, or her capacity to love.

The silent house remained a memory, but Lila carried forward a truth louder than any neglect, the love you don’t receive from some can be discovered, nurtured, and multiplied from within.
