In the quiet of night, death looms near,
A shadow, a whisper, a tremor of fear.
It's the end, they say, inevitable and dark,
A journey into the unknown, leaving a permanent mark.
My greatest fear, not just for me,
But for those I hold close, those I see.
The thought of loss, unbearable pain,
How do we carry on when they're no longer the same?
I envy the stars, eternal and bright,
No fear of departure, no day or night.
Oh, to live forever, unchanged and still,
No goodbyes to say, no voids to fill.
Yet, in the silence, a glimmer of hope,
A belief in something beyond this scope.
An afterlife, where judgments are cast,
Eternal bliss or fiery blasts.
But even then, uncertainty reigns,
Will we be whole or mere refrains?
For in death, a journey we embark,
A leap into the unknown, leaving a permanent mark.
