A very shitty thing to tell someone huh? I know.
I remember some years ago in High School, we were talking about birthdays with our Maths teacher. He said something totally unconventional, he asked, “Do you know every birthday brings you a year closer to death? We were taken aback by the statement. I thought about it and jeez, the man was right. It sapped the thrill of birthdays for me subsequently. Nice one Sir! 💔
They call it “the Birthday effect”; people are afraid of death as their birthday looms closer.
Do you know every birthday brings you a year closer to death?
I read something Pat Bertram wrote about this on Quora, she said, “Maybe you shouldn’t try to get out of that mentality. Maybe you should celebrate it. The fact is, at every birthday, you are a year closer to death. Use that feeling to make something of your life. Let it motivate you to do something great while you are here. Do all the things you’ve been putting off. Many people ignore the whole idea of death, and so they just go with the flow of their daily lives. Often when they reach the end, they realize they wasted what time they had. You’re in a unique position not to waste the time you have. If you know you’re going to die, then what else is there to fear? Take chances. Travel more. Even if you don’t have a list of things you want to do before you die, enjoy the physicality of your life. Feel what it means to be here. Feel the air, see the sights, smell the flowers, touch the earth. We are all just slow-burning stars, so let your inner light shine.”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME
This is to “letting my inner light shine”
Cheers to “living”
