Two weeks ago, while my sister washed at the back of the house, I stood by the kitchen window watching her and just looking around at the trees and the sky. She had Paul Wilbur's song, "The days of Elijah" playing on the jambox, and it caught my attention as I casually looked at the sun. It said,
Behold He comes, riding on the clouds, shining like the sun…
And I whispered to myself, "shining like the sun", knowing that it's not particularly the best expression because He actually shines brighter than the sun, but I understand that that's the best thing we can liken His shining light to.
Anyway, I looked at the sun, or tried to, lol. I couldn't look straight at it for more than some four seconds and guess what? It was so cloudy that day! So the sun wasn't even shining at it's peak like it would on a regular day, lmao. Just that small four-second-look at the sun and I already started to feel like I was going blind. I started to see blotches and stars which forced me to look away.
Then I thought to myself: if this is how the sun shines, imagine the one who made the sun.
Nature reminds me of the greatness of God. The works of His hands, His creation, they tell of how great and awesome and magnificent He is. They tell me just how creative the Creator is.
When I actually tried to imagine it—the One who made the sun—the sun paled in comparison to His brightness. Because God is Abba, He is the course. The Source of light. The Source of life. The Source, of everything. And everything He made is a testament of His greatness.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. Psalms 19:1-4 NIV
