This Sunday morning, a small group of #EndBadGovernance protesters assembled at Gani Fawehinmi Park, chanting solidarity songs following President Bola Tinubu’s national address. The protesters expressed dissatisfaction, claiming Tinubu’s speech failed to address their core issues despite mentioning his administration’s efforts.

Police and security agencies were present at the park, restricting protesters to the designated area and preventing them from marching beyond it. The number of police officers in Ojota, Lagos, was reported to exceed that of the protesters.

Earlier, Tinubu urged youths to suspend the protests and engage in dialogue, asserting that his administration is committed to good governance despite ongoing socio-economic challenges. He defended the removal of petrol subsidies, a major protest demand, as a painful but necessary economic reform. Since the subsidy removal in May 2023, petrol prices have soared and the naira has depreciated sharply, exacerbating inflation and food shortages.

Protesters are calling for the reinstatement of petrol subsidies, forex reforms, and action on food shortages and unemployment, among other demands.
