In a move that’s raising eyebrows across the nation, President Bola Tinubu has gone all out to praise the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, calling him an “exceptional performer” as the ex-Rivers State governor turns 58. The President’s glowing endorsement comes amid a media blitz highlighting Wike’s supposed “pivotal role” in transforming Abuja, with supporters touting his hands-on style and relentless drive.

According to a statement from Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President couldn’t stop singing Wike’s praises. Tinubu claims Wike’s career is all about “purpose, courage, and a relentless drive for results,” and points to an “aggressive push” for infrastructure renewal that’s allegedly reshaping Abuja. 

“Nyesom Wike has been one of the shining stars in the cabinet , an exceptional performer, developing infrastructure in the Federal Capital as never seen before and proving that his moniker as ‘Mr Project’ is not limited to his home state of Rivers,” Tinubu declared. The President insists Wike’s reputation for delivering big projects is now a national phenomenon, making him a central figure in the administration’s development agenda.

 The long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road, which sat unfinished for 14 years, is finally moving forward under Wike’s watch. Tinubu says this is proof of Wike’s “can-do attitude, resilience, and commitment to excellence.” The road’s completion is expected to ease traffic and improve connectivity for thousands , but critics wonder if this is just one project being used to overshadow years of neglect.

In a surprising twist, Tinubu also highlighted Wike’s support for the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” the administration’s much-touted blueprint for progress, despite Wike’s different party affiliation. The President claims this shows Wike’s dedication to the “greater good” and willingness to work across party lines , a narrative that conveniently fits the administration’s unity message.

“I commend him for being one of the champions of our Renewed Hope Agenda, even though he belongs to another party, and wish him continued strength and fulfilment as he marks another year in his life journey,” Tinubu said, offering the minister the usual wishes for health and success.

Wike’s leadership in the FCT is being hyped as a model of “impactful projects and reforms.” Since taking office, he’s been credited with reviving abandoned projects, fixing infrastructure, and improving public services.
