The 2024 Women African Football Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals was an emotional rollercoaster as the Super Falcons of Nigeria extended their record of the highest wins in the history of the tournament in an amazing comeback against host nation, Morocco.
At the first half of the final, all hope seemed lost as the North African nation were two goals up against the Falcons, despite Nigeria's dominance in terms of possession against them. However, the tide began to turn for the West African queens after a perfectly placed kick from the penalty spot by Okoronkwo. The 9ja spirit was revived and seven minutes later, the field play was leveled. Substitute Echegini gave the final hit on the nail's head at the 88th minute to complete the comeback against the Moroccan queens.
It was an unbelievable match for both teams. Celebrations rent through the atmosphere of the Stade Olympique as the Green-white-green colours were hoisted and displayed in varieties. The Falcons asserted their dominance once again winning the 10th title out of the 13 editions of the competition.
Congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria!
