I read a story about a boy who shot the teacher who molested his sister when she was 14, she killed herself. His father hid the gun and confessed to the crime so his boy could have a life.
"Be great", he told the boy as he was sentenced to prison.
That boy grew to be a US Congressman. He wanted to confess but his father threatened to kill himself if the boy ever did.
15 years later, the father realized his love for the boy only damaged him more. Son was all alone, no friends, no family, no relationship, just career. He looked accomplished but the guilt of his past sins haunted him all his life. The son loved his father too much to allow him continue to suffer. The father realized the guilt would eventually eat his son up. It was time.
The son resigned, grateful to his dad for being his shield then and for allowing him to take responsibility for his mistake.
He was convicted but he had never felt so free in his entire life.
