Google has come under fire for allegedly omitting search results related to the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Critics, including Donald Trump Jr. and other Republicans, claim that this omission amounts to election interference as the 2024 presidential campaign heats up.

When users searched for “the assassination attempt of,” Google provided no suggestions related to the incident, instead offering historical events like Ronald Reagan's attempted assassination. Trump Jr. accused Google of "intentional election interference" in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Big Tech is trying to help Kamala Harris ahead of the upcoming elections.

Elon Musk also chimed in, sharing a screenshot of Google's search results that failed to include Trump when he searched “President Donald.” He questioned the apparent ban and suggested it was a form of election interference.

As the political landscape intensifies, Kamala Harris is running for the presidency with support from President Joe Biden, while Trump aims for a comeback.

In response to the accusations, a Google spokesperson stated that no manual adjustments were made to search suggestions and explained that their systems prevent autocomplete suggestions related to political violence. However, users noted that similar searches for assassination attempts on other historical figures yielded results, raising questions about the consistency of Google's policies.

Google emphasized its commitment to connecting users with quality information while working on improvements to its systems following the incident.
