Getting Your Sleep Life Together (Without Losing Your Mind) 🛌
We’ve talked about the science, but let’s be real: actually getting those 8 hours is easier said than done. Life happens, right? Assignments pile up, Netflix "accidentally" plays the next episode, or you find yourself scrolling TikTok at 2 AM. But here’s the thing: you don't need a total life overhaul to sleep better; you just need a few “non-negotiables.”
First, treat your bed like a sanctuary, not a second office or a dining table. If you're a UNILAG student living in the hostels, I know space is tight, but try to keep the "work vibes" away from your pillow so your brain knows when it's time to shut down. Second, watch the "blue light" trap. That phone screen is basically telling your brain it’s high noon, which kills your melatonin. Try putting the phone away just 20 minutes before bed. You could read a physical book or just vibe to some music instead.
Lastly, consistency is your best friend. Even if you can't get 8 hours every night, try to wake up at the same time every day. It keeps your internal clock from getting "jet-lagged" without you ever leaving Lagos. Small wins lead to big wins.
