They exchanged glances, then nodded hesitantly. As I collected their numbers, I suggested, "For now, why don't you continue your walk? Hold hands if you're comfortable. I'm going to do some research on communication in relationships, and I'd like to meet with you both tomorrow to discuss it."
They agreed, tentatively joining hands again as they walked away. I watched them go, my mind already formulating a plan. Tomorrow, I would explain to them the impact of assumptions, and misunderstandings on relationships and their difference from accusations. 
I hoped that by addressing these issues, I could help them rebuild their trust and love.
As I headed home, I realized that this experience had taught me something too. Relationships require constant work, clear communication, and a willingness to see things from the other person's perspective. I looked forward to sharing these insights with the couple tomorrow, and perhaps learning even more in the process.
