There has been reports that the #EndBadGovernance protesters faced tear gas from police at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos. The tollgate, a significant site from the 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality, was initially quiet but became the focal point of demonstrations against hunger and hardship by mid-morning.

Protesters, carrying placards with the messages “End banditry now” and “Economic hardship is high,” expressed frustration with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Despite a court order directing the protesters to relocate to Gani Fawehinmi Park and Peace Park on Lagos mainland, demonstrators resisted and continued their rally until police intervention.

The nationwide protests, fueled by severe inflation and economic challenges linked to fuel subsidy removal and forex policies, are set to continue until August 10, 2024. Security forces, including police, military, and the Department of State Services, have warned against a repeat of the 2020 EndSARS unrest, but the protesters remain determined.
