The fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University has left the nation reeling. Yet alongside the shock came an unsettling wave of online mockery and even celebration of his death.

 Political disagreement can be fierce, but delighting in the violent end of a human life reveals something darker: a collapse of empathy. 

Death should call us to reflection, not ridicule. However one viewed Kirk’s politics, mocking his death is simply inhuman.
