I carry a burden, deep inside my soul
A weight that presses down, making my heart feel old
It's a load I've shouldered, for far too long
A constant companion, that doesn't belong
It's a heaviness that hides, behind a mask of pride
A secret sorrow, that I've learned to hide
The strain it puts on me, is hard to define
A fatigue that's bone-deep, a heart that's lost its shine
With every step I take, it weighs me down
A constant reminder, of the weight I've found
It's a burden I've carried, through laughter and through tears
A load that's grown familiar, through all the passing years
But still I hold on tight, to this weight I bear
Afraid to let go, of the pain I've shared
For in its familiarity, I find a strange sort of peace
A comfort in the discomfort, a solace in the release
Yet deep down, I know, I must find a way
To lay this burden down, come what may
To release the weight, that's held me captive for so long
And find the strength to move on, to a brand new song.
