At exactly 2:17 a.m., my phone rang.
Unknown number.
I ignored it.
It rang again.
And again.
Annoyed, I finally answered.
A girl's voice whispered, “Please... don't let them bury me.”
Before I could ask who she was, the call ended.
The next morning, everyone in my neighborhood was talking about a girl who had died in a terrible accident the previous night.
When I saw her picture…
My blood froze.
She was the same girl whose voice I had heard.
I convinced myself it was just a coincidence.
Until my phone rang again that night.
Same unknown number.
"I told you," she whispered. “They're making a mistake.”
I was terrified, but something about her voice sounded... desperate.
She sent me an address.
Against my better judgment, I went.
It led to a funeral home.
Her body was already in a coffin.
I waited until everyone left.
Then I leaned close.
"Can you hear me?" I whispered.
Nothing.
I laughed nervously at myself.
Then…
Her finger moved.
I screamed.
Within minutes, doctors rushed in.
She was still alive.
Barely.
The entire town called it a miracle.
For weeks, everyone praised me for saving her life.
But something wasn't right.
After she recovered, people around her started disappearing.
One by one.
Each person had the same terrified expression before they vanished.
One evening, I confronted her.
“What happened to you that night?”
She smiled.
A smile that didn't belong on a human face.
“I wasn't asking you to save me.”
I felt my heart stop.
“What do you mean?”
“I was begging you...”
“...not to let them bury the thing that climbed into my body.”
The lights in my house went out.
My phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
I looked at the screen.
It was a message from my own number.
It read:
“Don't answer the door. She finally found you.”
Then…
Someone knocked.
Three slow knocks.
And from the other side of the door…
I heard my own voice say……
“Open up... it's me.”
