What is a woman?
I asked what, not who. I know. It bothered most times to understand what a woman was. Always being defined by societal norms, beauty standards or roles.
Now, what is a woman?
A woman is the female counterpart of a man. She is a more emotional being, made to be the man's helper and supporter. She was made from his rib, symbolizing that she was and still his equal. Different roles but still human.
Defined by societal norms, a woman is someone who can cook, clean and care for the children. She is a child bearer and carer. She is quiet aand only minds the business of her home.
Defined by her roles, she is a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother.
Defined by beauty standards, she is a pretty face with flawless skin, elegance, grace and composure.
Even though a woman is classified as human, there are times, of course, where she is defined as a thing. She is a pawn, a donkey to be sold to the highest bidder, a breeding animal, someone to exploit sexually, silent sufferer and can be used and dumped at any time.
Women were specifically made to carry the burdens of man's crimes e.g. adultery, war and the likes.
Women are defined as weak creatures and inferior to men.
But women can also be carriers of great minds, successful thinkers, strategists and courageous warriors. Examples of these kind of women are Rani Lakshmi, Cleopatra, Ben Carson's Mother, Fumilayo Ransom Kuti and others.
We may be weak physically but we are definitely not weak in other areas.
I'm right, aren't I? Then again, I could be wrong.
These are my two Kobo.
But tell me? What are you defined as?
