Blood And Wealth - Yesterday

Blood And Wealth

We were two peas in a pod, my brother and I. Growing up, we were inseparable – shared everything, did everything together. Our family struggled, but we didn't care; we had each other. 😊

Then, Dad got an appointment in the government house. Politics sucked him in, and suddenly we were first-class citizens. The tables turned, and so did we.
Dad's success elevated us, but it was short-lived. He died unexpectedly, leaving behind a fortune and a will that'd change everything.

The will was read at a family dinner – a big, awkward affair. My brother wasn't comfortable with the clauses; he felt short-changed. And just like that, the gloves were off. We fought dirty, with resources, with words, hauling  insults and accusations, spilling dirty secrets with the whole family picking sides. 😡

Our mother, broken, pleaded with us to stop.
"You're brothers, for God's sake!"
But we were too far gone, blinded by greed. She died of heartbreak, and we didn't even notice. 😔

Now, my brother and I are sworn enemies. The wealth we grew up without became the wedge that split us. It's surreal – we fought over money we didn't even need. 😔

But sometimes, in the quiet nights, I wonder... what if?

"What if we never got so rich?"

"What if we went back to being those two peas in a pod?"

I still cling to hope that one day we'll be brothers again.
