I know this isn’t an absurd topic but hear me out
I was having a conversation with my friends and we were talking about how hard starting is and it really resonated with me because why people don’t try, isn’t because they don’t have great ideas but because they are afraid to fail. And this is a very popular topic but a lot of people read about it but few actually believe it.
It is okay not to be great yet.
Yes it is. Everyone started small. It’s hard to believe it but it is. Everyone started small and some even pathetic but they kept showing up.
Let’s talk numbers for a sec, because the data is wild.
The first video MrBeast posted in 2012 got 12 views. Twelve! Today he has over 300 million subscribers. The first Instagram post by Selena Gomez got 89 likes. She now has 400M+ followers. Even viral TikToks? 99% of them get less than 1,000 views in the first hour.
That one like you got? That’s how 99.9% of creators start. So? That means you are on the right path.
Here’s the real problem:
We compare our Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 50. Instagram only shows you the highlight reel. It doesn’t show the 50 posts with 2 likes that came before it. It doesn’t show the cringe phase everyone goes through. And because of that, most people quit before they even start.
Stats say 80% of new YouTube channels quit within the first year because they didn’t see “growth” fast enough.
80%! Not because they were bad. Just because they got impatient.
But here’s why 1 like and 0 comments is actually a win:
1. 1 person saw it. That’s 1 more person than zero. That’s 1 person who might share it, save it, or remember you later.
2. You posted. Most people never even press “post” because they’re scared. You did the hard part. You basically jumped over a cliff!!
3. You’re building reps. Just like working out, every post makes you better. Your 10th post won’t look like your 1st. Promise.
Think of it like this: TikTok’s algorithm doesn’t care if you have 0 followers. It tests every new video with a small group of people. If they like it, it pushes it out more. That one like could be the signal that starts it all.
So stop waiting to be “ready.” Ready is a myth.
Post the messy idea. Post the awkward video or whatever. Post with 1 like and 0 comments.
Because the only way to get to 1K likes is by surviving the 1 like stage first.
Your future self is not cringing at your first post. They’re thanking you for starting.
What’s stopping you from posting that thing you’ve been overthinking? It’s okay to have just 1 like and 0 comment
