**CHAPTER 4**

**UNFORESEEN DEATH Part 1: THE UNKNOWN VISITORS**

After the eventful first day at school, Lekan, Janet, and Jessica quickly formed an unbreakable bond, becoming known as the Three Geniuses, or G3. Their reputation for intelligence and high spirits spread throughout King and Queen’s College. Lekan, once withdrawn and solitary, began to open up, talking to a few more students and actively engaging in school activities. His transformation was remarkable and noticed by many, including his concerned mother.

Mrs. Lekan had been wary of her son's sudden change. One evening, she decided to investigate further.

"Good evening, Miss Tessie," she greeted the teacher.

"Evening, Mummy Lekan," Miss Tessie replied warmly.

"I've noticed a significant change in Lekan recently. He seems happier, more engaged at home. He's smiling and playing, which is unlike him since his father's death," Mrs. Lekan explained, her voice tinged with concern.

Miss Tessie smiled, relieved to shed light on the situation. “Yes, I've noticed that too. Lekan has found new friends, Janet and Jessica. Together, they form the G3, the most brilliant students at King and Queen’s College. They’re the reason behind his happiness.”

Mrs. Lekan sighed in relief. “Thank you so much for explaining this. I was worried, but now I understand. I'm really grateful.”

With her mind at ease, Mrs. Lekan watched as the G3 continued to grow closer, their friendship blossoming into a powerful bond that seemed unbreakable. However, the tranquility they enjoyed was soon to be shattered by an unforeseen tragedy.

**Jessica’s POV**

School life had become a paradise since the formation of G3. Lekan stood as our protector, and we thrived together. He managed to let go of his past, and we all pursued our dreams with determination. I aimed to become the greatest medical doctor in Nigeria. Lekan aspired to be the country's top detective, while Janet dreamed of being the best lawyer. Our journey from JSS1 to SS1 was filled with hard work and ambition. However, everything changed when my family was struck by a tragedy that nearly tore our friendship apart.

**Author’s POV**

One evening, Mr. Alani was in his room when a bodyguard informed him of some visitors. He went to meet them, and although the meeting was quick and quiet, it left Mr. Alani deeply troubled. His mood changed drastically after the visitors left, prompting him to call his wife to discuss the matter. Mrs. Alani shared his concern, particularly for their daughter’s well-being. They stayed up late into the night, trying to find a solution to their problem, but to no avail.

The next morning, after their family prayer, Jessica, now 18 and possessing the poise of someone even older, prepared for school without needing her mother’s usual wake-up call. She descended the stairs in her well-fitted school uniform, her NIKE sneakers gleaming.

"Good morning, Dad and Mom," she greeted.

"Morning, Princess," they replied, attempting to mask their worry. However, Jessica was perceptive.

"What’s wrong, Dad and Mom? You look worried," she asked.

"We’re fine," they assured her.

"Well, if you say so," she responded, although she wasn’t entirely convinced. After breakfast, they drove her to school. The day proceeded as usual, with G3 working hard towards their dreams. As the final bell rang, Jessica bid her friends goodbye.

"Good night, guys. See you tomorrow and make sure you do your assignments," she said, hugging Lekan and Janet.

To her surprise, it was her Uncle Evans who came to pick her up. "Good evening, Uncle Evans," she greeted him.

"Good evening, Jessica," he replied.

"Where are Dad and Mom?" she asked.

"Let’s go home first," he said, opening the car door for her. Lekan watched with a mixture of confusion and concern as Uncle Evans drove away with Jessica. "She looks worried. I hope she’s okay," he thought as he headed home.

Uncle Evans drove not to Jessica's house, but to his own. She grew curious but trusted her uncle due to his consistent affection and kindness. "Why are we going to your house, Uncle Evans?" she asked.

Uncle Evans remained silent throughout the drive, his eyes hidden behind dark shades that barely concealed his tears. When they arrived, the sight that greeted Jessica nearly drove her mad.

**What did she see at her uncle’s place? Who were those visitors? **
