Yesterday evening, I almost caused a serious kitchen accident without even realizing it.

I was tired and trying to prepare a quick meal while pressing my phone at the same time. I put oil on the fire and walked away for “just a minute” to reply to a message.

Suddenly, I started smelling something burning. When I rushed back to the kitchen, the oil was already smoking heavily and small flames had started coming up from the pot.

For a few seconds, I froze.

My first instinct was to pour water, but thankfully I remembered hearing somewhere that water makes oil fires worse. I quickly turned off the gas and covered the pot with a tray.

My heart was beating so fast afterward.

Honestly, yesterday reminded me how quickly little distractions can turn dangerous. God truly saved me because it could have become something much worse in seconds.

Since then, I’ve promised myself: no phone pressing while cooking again.
