Avoidance, The Killer of Dreams.
I don’t know if this happens to you too, but whenever a problem shows up, you usually have two options, you either stay and solve it, or you walk away. This happens a lot when responsibilities begin to feel heavy or demanding. When something feels like too much, the natural response is often avoidance.
This doesn’t only apply to big problems, but it also shows up in our daily decisions. We all want to become better and do better, but the real question is, when something is required of you, how do you respond?
I’m a bag maker, and whenever I’m faced with making new designs I haven’t tried before, I notice something about myself. Not because I’m incapable, but because fear creeps in. I begin to ask myself, will I be able to do it, what if I make mistakes, what if it doesn’t come out well? So instead of starting, I procrastinate. I delay. I avoid it.
Funny enough, when I finally decide to do it, I realize it was something I could have done a long time ago. The task was never the real problem, avoidance was.
One of the biggest killers of dreams is not fear alone.
Fear works closely with avoidance. Many people walk away from growth because it feels demanding. You say you want to exercise, but it feels stressful, so you postpone it. You want to cut down on sugar, but you love it, so you avoid the change. You want to take a course, but the commitment feels like too much, so you delay. And while you delay, time keeps passing.
So the question is simple, what are you avoiding? Because the thing you keep running from might be the very thing standing between you and the life you want.
