The cancer survivor whose medical report was allegedly used by self-styled relationship therapist Blessing “CEO” Okoro has publicly narrated how her private health records ended up at the centre of a social media storm.
Mrs Deborah Mbara, a makeup artist and Creative Director of Zazi Beauty, said she first met Blessing in Asaba when she was booked to handle the influencer’s makeup. According to Deborah, that professional encounter later became the basis of a relationship of trust that she now believes was exploited.
In a video shared online, Deborah recounted how Blessing contacted her, sounding distressed and claiming to be battling cancer. She said Blessing wept on the phone and asked to see Deborah’s medical report, allegedly to compare it with her own and seek guidance on treatment and survival.
Moved by what she thought was a genuine plea from a fellow patient, Deborah said she forwarded her confidential cancer report. The document, she explained, contained details of her diagnosis and treatment journey, information she had guarded closely even from many friends and associates.
Deborah said she was shocked to later discover that the same report had surfaced online, now presented as Blessing’s medical record. Screenshots of the document, with identifying details altered, were allegedly used to support Blessing’s public claim that she was battling cancer.
When confronted on television about accusations that she had stolen and doctored medical reports, Blessing denied knowing the people behind the allegations. She insisted she had never met the makeup artist or her brother, who had been calling her out on social media.
Deborah countered this by releasing a video originally posted by Blessing herself, showing both women together in Asaba during a makeup session. The footage, Deborah argued, directly contradicts Blessing’s claim that they had never met.
Deborah further alleged that after her family threatened legal action, Blessing travelled to Asaba to plead for forgiveness. According to Deborah, her husband told Blessing that the only path to reconciliation was to return online and publicly admit the truth about the medical report.
She claimed Blessing instead deactivated her Instagram account and has yet to issue any clarification. Describing the alleged misuse of her cancer journey as deeply traumatic, Deborah condemned the act as “evil,” “wickedness,” and “demonic,” saying no survivor’s pain should be turned into a prop for public sympathy.
