WHERE DOES OUR TAX REALLY GO - 2 months ago

Image Credit: We are all being played.

Paying tax used to feel distant, something “grown-ups” with steady jobs worried about. But now, I notice it everywhere—transport fares, groceries, even mobile data. It’s frustrating not because of paying, but because I often wonder where the money goes. Roads remain full of potholes, electricity is unreliable, and public services barely exist.

Still, I know taxes are supposed to help build the country. They should be a partnership between citizens and government, not a burden. But without transparency and accountability, it feels personal, like my contributions don’t matter.

Paying tax has become more than just money taken from my pocket—it’s a reflection of the society I want to live in. Every naira should count, and every citizen’s voice should be heard.
