When growing up
The only right justification of my actions
Was because my mom said so
An expert in her craft
She could sense our wrong doing Miles away
A military general
As only her eye’s command
Gets us back into formation
She knew my father's belts more than him
“if you know you know”
Thats my mom
She cooked and served on a tray
Ensured we eat
She cleaned and ensured we learnt
She raised us to add to society
Although she protected us from society
She whipped our ass
And wiped our tears
Now that's my mom
She begged our neighbors
To discipline us in her absence
And not defend our wrong doing
She said ;“life is a skyscraper yet don't be on the ground floor”
She slept not at night to pray for us
And by day fixed our character
A magician of the kitchen
Made everything out of nothing
And kept it sparkling when she was done
She never let society judge us
But reminded us or actions would
She invested all in us
That not just my mom
But my African mother
