Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala has moved to calm fears over his health, telling supporters he is “doing well” after being diagnosed with brief, temporary absence episodes linked to a neurological dysfunction.
The attacking midfielder, one of Europe’s most highly rated young players, chose to address the issue directly after a series of worrying on-field incidents in recent weeks, including matches against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim in which he appeared disoriented and was withdrawn as a precaution.
In a detailed message to fans, Musiala acknowledged that the episodes can look alarming when they occur during games, but stressed that specialists have assessed his condition and cleared him to continue playing. He emphasised that doctors have found no additional health risk beyond the episodes themselves and that he is under close medical supervision.
Musiala said he is working with neurological experts and other specialists to manage the dysfunction and understands what is happening to his body. According to him, the episodes are short, temporary lapses in awareness, often described in medical literature as absence events, which can be associated with certain neurological conditions but are not necessarily career-ending.
The 23-year-old underlined that continuing his normal routine, including training and competitive football, is part of his recovery strategy, agreed in consultation with his medical team. He described playing for Bayern as both a professional duty and a source of emotional stability, saying that staying on the pitch, within a familiar environment, helps him cope with the diagnosis.
Musiala also highlighted the role of Bayern Munich and his inner circle, praising the club’s medical department, coaching staff and teammates for their support. Internally, Bayern have adjusted monitoring protocols around the player, ensuring he is regularly evaluated and immediately withdrawn if any concerning signs appear.
While choosing transparency about the broad nature of his condition, Musiala asked for understanding and privacy regarding specific medical details. He said he wants the focus to remain on football and his performances, not on speculation about his health.
He closed his message with a note of optimism, insisting he feels on “a good path” and drawing strength from the backing of supporters. For now, Musiala intends to keep chasing trophies with Bayern and Germany, determined that a manageable neurological issue will not define his career.
