I love movies.
I got a chance to go to the cinema courtesy of my boss at the radio station where I intern on campus. We had a programme, “96 BOX OFFICE” where we gave the movies dropping in the cinemas during the week and gave out tickets to lucky winners of our weekly trivia (Sponsored by Mees Palace Cinemas). My boss told me I could co-host, the ticket was for me to go get that cinema feel. I looked at those tickets and smiled (omo, I had plans for them o).
The ticket expires in a week; I decided to go on the last day. There was no school that day so yes, a good day to flex hard.
I looked at the movie schedule and I decided to go watch a Nollywood flick. I had two tickets so my brother got one. We got to the cinema for an afternoon screening. We were told the movie had already started screening but we could still catch it if we wanted on screen one (there were two screen rooms). “I just bought drinks and doughnuts for a half movie, I dey craze? The money must be worth it o” I thought to myself. We decided to go to screen two to watch THE FALL GUY which was about to start.
The screen room was really cool, lights everywhere, there was some serious AC in that room, loudspeakers and padded walls and then everything went dark and the big screen came on. It had begun. I was getting pretty excited (drum roll).
The movie had me in 10 minutes. It was Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt on screen and then I saw one of my actress crush, Hannah Waddingham and I said heck yes (Na so I adjust my seat o make I balance well). I knew I was going to enjoy this one. The popcorn finished in 20 minutes. (Movies and food really go together o)
Best two hours of my life well spent if you ask me, I was entertained. There were laughs, some suspense and it was about a stuntman, of course there was a lot of action. Guns blazing, car chase, some martial arts, some falling, some jumping and even some romance. The perfect blend. I tried my best to maintain my composure on seat. My brother got an ear full of me explaining every detail and who’s who in the movie (That’s why I watch movies alone, I can’t help but talk when I’m with company). Best action film of the year hands down I said.
When it ended, I had to give a round of applause (Everyone kept looking at me funny). I couldn’t wait to get home and regale my folks with the details. I wish I saw Avengers: Endgame in the cinema, my mind would have been blown to high heavens (Yep, it was that great).
On the way home, I said to myself, “Not bad, this wasn’t bad at all, I could totally do this again and I will”.
Deadpool & wolverine, we have a date in June.💯
