Ghana Suspends Boxing After Tragic Death Of Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey - 3 months ago

Ghana has suspended all boxing activities following the death of 32-year-old professional boxer Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey, who passed away on September 23, 2025, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, 11 days after sustaining severe injuries during a fight at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

His passing marks the second boxing-related fatality in the country within six months, after Nigerian fighter Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju died in March. The National Sports Authority, working with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, said the suspension takes immediate effect as the safety of athletes remains its top priority.
