Failure……..!!!!
Thoughts wandered through his mind, negative thoughts……? Yes, or was it positive? He didn’t know, all he had worked for……nothing, nothing to show for it. How can a graduate, in his early thirties, depend on daily meagre incomes that is only enough for a day meal. Eating from hand to mouth……… but he had tried, hasn’t he? Hustling like his peers to find white collar jobs, looking for online jobs or scholarships he could apply for. What has he not done, why was his case different? He remembered Kunle his course mate, he was a certified doctor, earning in dollars. Why couldn’t he have that kind of opportunity, or was it…………….
Going down memory lane he remembered the motivational speaker that spoke about success and failure. Generally, Ahmed hated motivational speakers.. no, he detested them. He didn’t understand why they spoke like as if they are not from this world. The things they say and talk about do not seem feasible. He wasn’t so sure they even practice what they speak of. Their world seemed so far away from reality. There was one that said to achieve success in whatever you do, you have to keep failing,….. what was that? He didn’t understand how one could even fathom the desire to keep trying something after failing several times. Another spoke of how successful men are risk-takers. He explained how fear of taking risks hinders a person’s success. This is hard, how will a person consciously dive into something that will make him lose the little he has. But……
Maybe it was time, it was time to break away from that comfort zone. Poverty had gripped his bones, oh they had held him tight. His mother always said “poverty is a disease”. Yes, it is truly a disease. Friends stayed away from him, even relatives had ignored him. He didn’t care anymore, he did rather starve today and succeed tomorrow. He was going to save three days wages and invest in that online business he had been seeing in his phone. Tomorrow he would go to Dayo’s house and get more information on that business he discussed with him the other day. Yes he would take that leap. it was time …. It was time………
