โ€œAre we really independent?"

This was a question thrown at me by Mr. Felix when I wished him "Happy Independence Day," yesterday.

At first I thought it was an rhistorical question, not until he asked again "Ken, are we really independent?"

" Divided, we've stood.

Hatred and greed, we've harboured for too long." He said almost shedding tears.

"Ken, I can't remember the last time I felt  I was free amongst the, my people and worst of it the Northerners. Even my fellow Igbo communities don't acknowledge me as one of them simply because my father gave me an English name."

"What happened to the unity and beauty in diversity." He asked.

At this point, I could feel the emotions of a man whom the government, people have failed and life has dealt with.

I couldn't say a thing to console him because I too wanted to be consoled.

Nigeria at 64,

Here's my message to You.

You aren't a failure, but a victim which if you properly make a decision today you can become a victor.

You are the light that has come and soon, Kings and other Nations shall come to the brightness of Your light.

Nigeria, You aren't weak but strong. And all that is needed is to prove yourself right by shunning evil and it's appearance.

You are not a misfortune to Your people, this is just a setback, but I pray you learn from your mistakes and rise again soon.

Above all, I pray that your lost glory is restored again.

Again, You shall rise again.
The land of my birth shall rise again.

To you fellow Citizens,
Nigeria is You
And I am Nigeria, let together put our hands to give and do our best for the growth, development and restoration of ourselves...The Nigerians.

The message is simple, Let's shun evil and all it's appearance
