'Mpa' as he is fondly called owns a provision shop, he is a father of a boy. He is a good man. He loves his wife and he loves his family and most importantly he fears God and does his business with prudence and integrity.
By 6am, anyone setting out for the day might see Mpa on his way to the shop. His house is about 100 meters away from the shop. You will always find him smiling as he begins to bring out his provisions and set up for the day's business after he has swept the area. Some of the provision he sells includes sugar, biscuits, bread, milk and beverages. He also sells carbonated drinks and some non alcoholic wine. He also stocks noodles and basic toiletries for daily house hold use. He also sells foodstuff like rice, beans, Garri, corn flour and some other grains you can think of.
By 6:30am - 7:30am, it is mostly students and workers that he is seen attending to because they are all in haste to get to school or their various working places that will resume by 8am.
His mornings are usually very busy because he sells by the road side and as mentioned earlier he is usually patronized by early morning commuters everyday.
From 11am the traffic begins to reduce and at such moments towards the noon time, Mpa can be met sleeping because of possible tiredness from the early morning movements of attending to the rushing customers and students. If he is not met sleeping , he will be reading his Bible. Sometimes you can meet Mpa, gisting happily with customers or people who come to the shop to just sit down, he is a very good conversationalist. He can discuss with a person with matters ranging from family life to the economy of the nation and security. He welcomes any worthwhile gist that a person might bring up as it helps him while away time pending when the next customer comes in.
Quite recently, I stopped by his shop to buy something and I heard him sharing his faith with one of the customers who had come to buy something. From his sharing one could tell and understand how strong his faith is in God and how strong his belief is.
By 1:30pm up till 3pm thereabout the traffic begins to pick up again because by this time, students are beginning to close from school and returning home will want to get some snacks for their stomachs and insatiable taste buds. By 5pm downwards, the workers are beginning to return from work and they may come to purchase some little foodstuff to prepare for the evening meal.
At 8:30pm, Mpa begins to pack up his goods and begins to round up for the day. His wife usually comes to stay with him in the shop at evening periods and keeps her husband company. At such times she also attends to customers because the shop traffic in the evening is always high and she assists the husband.
By 8:45pm, Mpa locks up for the night. As Mpa locks up for the night and walks the short distance home with his wife and son, the day comes to a close for this provision shop owner.
Looking at his life one can clearly sees strength, diligence and consistency that is mixed with faith in God. Mpa is an ordinary man with a small shop but he has a big heart and a strong faith in God.
