Many times I've asked God to make me wise, to give me money, and to make me play the guitar like a pro (among other things). One day, in the middle of my train of unreasonable requests, He asked if I knew the investments people made to grow to become what they are and be where they are today. I had to ask myself the same question again. Did I know the hard work, dedication and consistency it took to be the kind of people I admire today with covetous eyes, saying, "I want to be like them"?
Sometimes we want the shortcut, but whatever is gotten through a short cut will be cut short, no matter how long it lasts. But God is such a good and intentional father who will never give you what He knows will destroy you. If it's going to do more harm than good, He's not giving it.
You know what happens when you're in need of something: you go to God and say, "God, please give me this thing", and He doesn't. One of the reasons why He won't give it to you is because He has put it in someone around you. Countless times I've been stuck in a loop and asking God to help me, then I have a conversation with a friend that makes me go, "ugh, so much wisdom"đ¤¤. No one has the complete monopoly of knowledge, my teacher always says. For certain things, God won't give them to you. More like He can't, because He already did when He put it in someone close to you.
If you think that God isn't giving something to you, look around. It's closer than you think. It's in someone, a friend, or even someone you despise. If it's in the former, it'll teach you value and honour, and if it's in the latter, it'll teach you humility. Either ways, it's a win win. God really did put this treasure in earthen vessels.
