Let me tell you about something that happened to me that completely changed how I see love.
I used to believe love was all butterflies, cute selfies, late-night gist, and sweet “good morning beautiful” messages. I thought as long as the feelings were loud, love was strong.
Until life taught me a different lesson.
There was this guy I really liked, tall, fine, smooth talker. Anytime he texted, my heart would literally somersault. I was convinced this was what love felt like.
Then everything scattered.
My mum fell seriously ill, bills were stacking, and my whole world felt like it was shaking. And guess what? My sweet-tongued prince charming suddenly became as unreachable as customer care.
No calls.
No messages.
Nothing.
But another guy, someone I wasn’t even “feeling” like that showed up for me in a way I didn’t expect.
He drove me to the hospital.
He sat with me for hours.
He bought food I didn’t even have appetite for.
He checked on me morning and night.
He was present… consistently.
No romantic drama. No butterfly story. Just pure, steady, intentional care.
And that was when it hit me:
Feelings may introduce love, but choices sustain it.
Butterflies disappear, but actions remain.
Real love shows up especially when life gets messy.
So is love a choice or a feeling?
For me, it’s both.
But when life gets real, the choice always speaks louder than the feeling.
What does love mean to you?
