She looks so beautiful in the light,
Though it scares her when she walks alone.
The voices in her head scream so loud,
Like the sound of thunder.
You could tell there's a storm in her life.
"You'll never be enough, you're different,"
"You're a failure," they all point fingers at her,
And latch on with their derogatory comments.
Society's standards stand high at their peak,
Like Mount Everest, taunting her,
Waiting for her to miss a step.
Like an axe reaching to the roots of a tree,
Ready to break it apart.
And so she withdraws into the darkness,
Her safe haven, the only place
Where she can be herself and be loved,
The only place she finds peace and solace.
Oh, was she made only to wallow in darkness,
Only to linger in the cold of darkness?
The universe felt the pain within her soul,
And the longing to feel the warmth of love.
The universe whispered to the heavens,
And heaven gifted her something surreal:
A light, a soul in the form of a man.
And he came, dispelling all darkness in her life,
She could literally feel the warmth of his love.
He took her by the hand, and together they blossomed
Into something marvelous.
Found in love's pure light,
Like yin and yang, the two became one.
