Slumber comes,
Not on tiptoes, but like fog
Rolling across evening-dimmed floors
Their gossamer fingers trace
My heavy lids
Each caress deepens the spell
Muscles melt like spring snow
While consciousness frays at the edges
Reality ripples like disturbed water
One blink becomes eternal night
When my eyes finally part
The clock has betrayed me
Lost hours drift like dandelion seeds
Dancing through darkness
While I lay anchored
In slumber's sweet web
Tonight I stand guard
Against those starlit hands
"Not this time," I whisper
But Slumber only hums
Their lavender-scented breath
Already wraps around my thoughts
And before the battle begins
I've already surrendered
