WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE WORDS - 2 days ago

There are times when I don't know what to say. I sit down to pray, and suddenly, the words I've always known disappear.

I want to talk to God.

I really do.

But how do I even begin?

How do I explain everything happening in my head when I don't even understand it myself?

Sometimes, all I can do is sit there.

Sometimes, I cry.

Sometimes, I stare into space, trying to find the right words, but nothing comes.

And sometimes, the only prayer that comes out is, "God, I don't know what to do."

I used to think prayer had to be perfect.

I thought I had to know exactly what to say, how to say it, and how to end it.

But I'm beginning to understand that prayer isn't always about having the right words.

Sometimes, prayer is simply coming.

Coming with your tears.

Coming with your confusion.

Coming with your questions.

Coming when you're angry, tired, disappointed, scared or completely overwhelmed.

Just come.

Because there are moments when your mouth cannot explain what your heart is carrying, but God understands.

He understands the tears that fall without an explanation.

He understands the silence.

He understands the sigh that comes when you've run out of words.

He understands the "Lord, please" that never even becomes a complete sentence.

And somehow, you come in heavy and leave a little lighter.

Not necessarily because everything has suddenly changed.

Not because the problem disappeared.

But because you remembered that you don't have to carry it all by yourself. You laid it down.

At the foot of the cross.

You gave Him the things that had been weighing heavily on your heart, even if you couldn't explain exactly what they were.

And maybe that's one of the most beautiful things about prayer.

You don't always have to have everything figured out before you come to God.

You don't have to clean yourself up first.

You don't have to pretend you're okay.

You don't have to come with a perfect prayer.

Come as you are.

There are days when all you can do is cry.

There are days when you ask the same question over and over again because you still don't understand.

There are days when you are tired of being strong.

There are days when you don't even know what you're asking God to do.
You just know that you need Him.And He listens.

Sometimes, prayer is not the long conversation we imagined.

Sometimes, it is five minutes of silence.

Sometimes, it is tears.

Sometimes, it is a whispered, "Help me."

Sometimes, it is simply sitting there and knowing, God, I am here.

And somehow, that is enough to begin.

I've realised that I don't always leave prayer with answers.

Sometimes I still have the same questions.

Sometimes the situation is still the same.

But something inside me has changed.

The weight doesn't feel quite as heavy.

My heart feels a little calmer.

I remember that I am not carrying this alone.

And maybe that is what I need sometimes.

Not an immediate answer.

Not an explanation for everything.

Just the reminder that God is still there.

So if you're reading this and you don't know how to pray today, don't worry about finding the perfect words.

Just go.

Sit with Him.

Cry if you need to.

Talk if you can.

Stay silent if that's all you have.

Tell Him you're tired.

Tell Him you're angry.

Tell Him you're confused.

Tell Him you don't understand.

Tell Him everything.

Or tell Him nothing at all.

He already knows.

Just come.

Because sometimes, prayer is not about saying everything right.

Sometimes, prayer is simply laying your heart down and saying,"God, I don't have the words, but You know."

And then you breathe.

You let it go.

You leave it at His feet.

And somehow, you walk away a little lighter than when you came.
