Beyond Aesthetics: Mass Communication Department Transforms Environment in Annual Clean-up
In line with its annual cleaning exercise, the 300-level students of the Mass Communication Department have given their faculty environment a transformative clean-up.
The event, themed "Clean, Clear, Cultivate," was graced by the presence of the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Saudat Abdulbaqi. In her address, she commended the initiative and stated that the exercise had inspired the entire Faculty to adopt the practice, rather than leaving it solely to the Mass Communication Department.
"Cleanliness is a part of faith," she stated. "You cannot say you are faithful as a Christian or Muslim while living in a filthy environment." She reinforced this point by referencing scriptures from both the Bible (1 Corinthians 7:1) and the Quran (Chapter 2, Verse 222), which emphasize the importance of purity and cleanliness.
Professor Abdulbaqi also praised the course lecturer, Professor Mustapha, for his commitment to ensuring the continuity of this annual tradition.
Professor Mustapha, who also serves as the Director of the General Studies (GNS) Division, remarked, “No matter our status, we are not beyond our environment. We need our environment to survive, look good, and externalize our beauty.”
Also present to support the event was the Head of Department (HOD), Dr. Patrick Udende. He urged students to internalize the message, stating, “We are not just communicating to others, but also to ourselves. We do this by transferring this cleaning exercise to our homes and wherever we find ourselves. It should be part of our existence.”
Other staff members in attendance included Dr. Adisa, Mrs. Aderinloye, Mr. Adewusi, Mr. Yusuf, and Mr. Kehinde.
