The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has fixed Tuesday for the formal screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections

The exercise will be conducted by a 14 member committee constituted by the faction of the party led by Tanimu Turaki SAN and backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde The committee is mandated to assess Jonathan’s eligibility and compliance with party guidelines in what is effectively a coronation screening

Former Vice President Namadi Sambo former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi are among the prominent figures named to the panel Their inclusion is seen within the party as an attempt to give the process political weight and regional balance

Other members of the committee are Chief Olabode George former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu Maryam Ciroma Zainab Maina Josephine Anenih Dr Abdul Bulama Dr Esther Uduehi Edo State PDP chairman Tony Aziegbemi Dr Sunday Solarin and Chief Anicho Okoro who will serve as administrative secretary

The faction’s National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong said Jonathan has already completed his registration as a party member through the PDP’s new digital platform introduced in line with Independent National Electoral Commission INEC directives Party insiders describe this as a key procedural step clearing the way for his return to frontline national politics under the PDP banner

Beyond the presidential race the faction has also rolled out an ambitious screening schedule for thousands of aspirants across the country According to the statement 748 House of Representatives aspirants 198 senatorial hopefuls and 112 governorship aspirants will face screening panels

In addition 2122 aspirants for state Houses of Assembly are expected to be screened in their respective states on the same day underscoring the scale of the party’s internal preparations for 2027

The Interim National Working Committee iNWC has released the full list of members serving on the various Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels The party said the exercise is being conducted strictly in line with its guidelines and timetable for the 2027 elections positioning the PDP to present a unified front with Jonathan at the apex of its national ticket
