Uruguayan Defender Jaun Izquierdo Tragically Pass Away At 27 - 3wks ago

Tragic news has emerged from the world of football as Uruguayan player Juan Izquierdo, a defender for Nacional, has passed away following a sudden collapse on the field during a Copa Libertadores fixture against Sao Paulo earlier this month. The cause of his collapse was attributed to an irregular heartbeat, which led to a cardiac arrest.

The 27-year-old athlete was immediately attended to by medical personnel after his collapse on August 22 during the match. He was subsequently transferred to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, where he was initially reported to be in stable condition. Unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse in the following days.

Nacional, Izquierdo's club, shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing profound grief over the loss of their beloved player. "With immense sorrow and shock, we announce the passing of Juan Izquierdo," the club stated. "Our condolences extend to his family, friends, teammates, and all who held him dear. The entire Nacional family mourns this devastating loss."

The news of Izquierdo's death has cast a somber shadow over the football community. A representative from Sao Paulo FC described it as a "grievous day for the sport." Luis Suarez, an Inter Miami forward and fellow Uruguayan, shared his own emotional response, saying, "It's a pain and sadness that's difficult to put into words. May he find peace. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly tough time."

Izquierdo was placed on a ventilator on Sunday and had been receiving neurological care since Monday. He had been brought on as a substitute at halftime for Sebastian Coates, in the match against Sao Paulo. His collapse occurred in the 84th minute, without any physical contact from other players on the field.
