Love in Every Word is a 2025 romantic drama directed by Stanley Obi and produced by Omoni Oboli. The film stars Bamike "BamBam" Olawunmi-Adenibuyan as Chioma, a determined Lagos-based professional navigating the complexities of love and personal growth. Her evolving relationship with Uzor Arukwe as Obiora, challening her preconceived notions about love, influenced by her past experiences.
The movie follows Chioma, a budding entrepreneur in Lagos who has just come out of a likely parasitic relationship. Frustrated by love and coupled with her demanding work-life,she decides to listen to her nagging mom and take a break and travel to her hometown in Anambra for a family event. There, she meets Obiora, a wealthy, narcissistic but respectful Igbo businessman(which was an impromptu arrangement by her mother, unknown to them both). Although they feel a connection, Chioma however,is hesitant to open her heart again, especially to an Igbo man, due to her past experiences and childhood trauma. The story unfolds as she struggles between her fears and the possibility of true love.
She refuses advances from him even with his thoughtful and extravagant showcase of his intentions with an Oghene band.Highlighting on embracing one's cultural identity ,its traditions, values, and the beauty of accepting ’s roots.
Chioma’s journey therefore, shows how healing and self-discovery are necessary before true love can be found.
Having some observations, there are some strengths and weakness,I could pinpoint in the movie.
Its Strengths
I think the actors did a great job, with their explicit performances ,especially Uzor Arukwe and BamBam, whose chemistry made the love story believable.
Also inducing a sense of cultural representation by the use of Igbo language, traditional outfits, and village settings giving the movie an authentic Nigerian feel.
Many viewers, especially women, would find it relatable and can connect with Chioma’s struggles in love, work, and identity.
Its production quality was really topnotch too, where the blend of its cinematography, sound, and costume design were well-done and pleasing to the eyes.
I think it also had its fair share of quite a large amount of engagements ,especially with its popular phrase of Obiora saying "Achalugo, I'm going to marry you " and Chioma responding with "Odogwu please " garnering a number of most content creators on Tiktok and the likes, making use of it.
Weaknesses
Some scenes were unnecessarily long and could have been cut shorter to maintain better pacing.
A few plot conflicts were resolved too quickly, making parts of the story seem unrealistic.
According to what I felt, some supporting characters were not fully developed and felt like they were just filling in space; like her friends ,and relative who had an introduction at the start of the movie.
Rating the movie,"Love In Every Word", I would likely give it a 7/10 as I feel, it was too hyped up in most social platforms.
However, for viewers who prefer strong feminine character plays, it's a must watch. Dwelling on self-worth,love, healing ,Omoni Oboli successfully delivers a story that is emotional, culturally rich, and visually appealing with inspiring strong characters that speaks to the heart, making it worth watching.
